Local Jobs Program

A place-based employment and skills program across Australia. In the New England North West we connect people, employers and training providers so local jobs stay local.

People collaborating — employment and skills

What it is

A collaborative, place-based initiative

Administered by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) to support local labour markets across Australia. In the New England North West we connect people with training, job opportunities and support services where they live.

The program operates in 51 employment regions nationwide. Each region has a Job Coordinator, a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce, and a Local Jobs Plan—shaped with local employers and community.

How it works

Job Coordinators

Job Coordinators in all 51 regions bring together local employment services, employers and community. They share skills and workforce priorities, develop initiatives, advise on hiring, and connect communities with programs and funding.

Community Taskforce collaboration
02

Local Jobs and Skills Taskforces

Each region has a Taskforce chaired by the Job Coordinator, with community members working together on local employment solutions. Taskforces meet regularly to shape priorities and actions.
