Last updated: 17 March 2026
1. Our commitment
The Local Jobs New England North West website ("the Site") is operated on behalf of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) as part of the Australian Government's Local Jobs Program. We are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.
2. Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 at Level AA. This statement describes our current conformance and the measures we have taken to meet these guidelines.
3. Accessibility features
We have implemented the following features to support accessibility:
- Skip to main content, A skip link appears when you press Tab on keyboard load, allowing screen reader and keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation.
- Accessibility widget, A floating control (bottom-left of the screen) lets you adjust contrast (including high contrast and inverted modes), text size, line spacing, reduce motion, highlight links, and strong focus outlines.
- Keyboard navigation, All interactive elements can be reached and operated via keyboard. Focus indicators are visible when using Tab.
- Semantic structure, Headings, landmarks, and lists are used correctly to support screen readers and assistive technologies.
- Alternative text, Images include descriptive alt text where appropriate.
- Responsive design, The Site works across screen sizes and can be zoomed without loss of functionality.
4. Known limitations
We are aware that some content or third-party integrations may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are working to address these issues and welcome feedback. If you encounter accessibility barriers, please contact us.
5. Feedback
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the Local Jobs New England North West website. If you experience difficulty accessing any content or functionality, or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us. We will respond to your enquiry and, where possible, provide the information in an alternative format.
